Recap: Infant Care Resource Drive

Recap: Infant Care Resource Drive
May 16, 2023 Danielle Longueville
On Saturday, April 15, 2023, we joined forces with the TCU Department of Women and Gender Studies to offer our first Infant Care Resource Drive.  This was a successful first event of many in our campaign to educate the public about Anti-Abortion Centers, also known as Crisis Pregnancy Centers.

Quick Question: What is an Anti-Abortion Center?

Anti-Abortion Centers, also known as Crisis Pregnancy Centers,  purport to provide support to pregnant people in an effort to manipulate and shame them to stop them from getting abortion care. The reality, especially in this economy, is that many people are unable to access important supplies for their families and often rely on these organizations for help, which often impose religious requirements on folks in need.

We’ve launched the My Choice: Not A Crisis  initiative to be more in line with our reproductive justice values and to be able to support pregnant Texans in the various aspects of their reproductive lives. We are working to be an alternative to these organizations so that folks in need aren’t forced to deal with these types of organizations.

What We Did – And Will Keep Doing

We had such a great time at our inaugural Infant Care Resource Drive on TCU’s Campus. In total, we were able to distribute supplies to 50 families. It was so great to connect with and support our community members in need, all while working to fight against CPCs/AACs in our area.

From the Community

Here are some quotes from families served during the Infant Care Resource Drive:

“…Everybody was very nice and friendly. Keep up the good work.”

“It is really beneficial to count on an organization like this, especially in this economy, and above all for families with little resources and new parents.” *

“Thank you for doing these types of events and for helping the community!”*

“Everything was very good, [hopeful] for more events like this.”*

“It is good to know about the [anti-AAC] project, now I know.”*

What’s Next

We know that our work does not stop here. As long as AACs continue to thrive in Texas and receive funding from the state government, pregnant Texans will continue to be subjected to their harmful tactics.

Through continued resource drives, community outreach, and educational efforts by our organization, it’s our hope that we’ll be able to educate and support our community in ways that actually contribute to improving their quality of life.

Our next Infant Care Resource Drive will be on Saturday, October 7, 2023. Stay tuned to our newsletters by joining here, follow us on social media at @teafund  or check back on our website for updates from our staff.
