Texas Equal Access Fund is excited to announce that funding abortions will return again for Texans who need to travel out of state for care. Let’s talk about how we plan to re-launch our Help Line and provide these services to our community, as well as how you can help us keep the funds going.
On Pause ‘Til Pitman
Since Dobbs was decided in late June, Texas Equal Access Fund has been under a direct threat of criminal liability for supporting pregnant Texans who need abortions. We had to pause funding abortions because legislators were making lots of threats to go after us for helping people, even if the abortions we were funding were in other states.
While we were paused, we were helping people by funding non-abortion services and we will continue to fund these services along with abortions in other states. We were also expanding our work to be more in line with Reproductive Justice with our newly launched infant care resource program to better serve our community
On February 24, Judge Robert Pitman ruled that Texas could not go after abortion funds for funding abortions in other states because DA’s can’t apply laws in other states. (want to link to the Pitman ruling blog here)
Restart and Roll Out: The Help Line Re-Launch
Thanks to the support from our legal counsel, we will restart funding abortions for Texans out of state. To celebrate this win, we’re funding basically everyone who calls us to help as many Texans as possible going out of state.
Texans seeking abortion care can text us for help at 1-844-TEA-FUND (1-844-832-3863). The text line is confidential!
Because there are no more abortion clinics in Texas, all of the abortions we fund are for Texans going to another state. As the last line of support for pregnant Texans who need abortions, we know that we are a critical resource. That’s why we need your help so that as many Texans who need care can get it.
