We are rounding out 2023 with changes and new beginnings as we expand our services to better support our community. Read on for the full story behind our newest slogan: Reproductive Access In Action.
Why “Reproductive Access?”
As we continue to fight against restrictive, harmful abortion bans in Texas, we are forced to carve new ways around access barriers and expand the care we provide. While we fight to raise awareness about our efforts to provide meaningful support and accurate information, Anti-Abortion Centers receive millions of dollars in unsupervised state funding to spread misinformation and dissuade pregnant Texans from pursuing safe abortion and contraceptive services in the name of “sanctity of life.” Additionally, trans health care is under attack in our state, as legislators continue to remove access and further restrict health care providers from providing safe and affirming care.
In short, our scope of work must expand to meet the battles that we are fighting in Texas. As defined by Sistersong, Reproductive Justice encompasses the human right to personal bodily autonomy, the decision to have or not have children, and the ability to parent in safe, supportive environments. Our expansion aligns us more closely with these values, thus embodying our new slogan, “Reproductive Access in Action.”
For us, that means looking along the full spectrum of reproductive health care and finding ways we can support people in their reproductive journeys in addition to out-of-state abortion services. We’ve begun to fund care such as IUDs, ultrasound visits, contraception, and infant care resource drives. It also means continuing to reiterate our belief that reproductive health care is trans health care, and advocating so that everyone has access to safe, affirming care.
What’s Next?
We are building a sustainable infrastructure that effectively supports the new resources we offer. Our TEAm continues to grow, learn and connect with community partners who are helping us do the same. The My Choice, Not A Crisis initiative created to combat Anti-Abortion Centers continues to evolve and increase opportunities to connect families with the resources and services they need.
