Trump Victory Puts Abortion Access and Reproductive Justice at Risk
Texas Equal Access Fund Warns of Dire Consequences for Reproductive Health and Rights
In the wake of Donald Trump's presidential victory, Texas Equal Access Fund (TEA Fund) expresses deep concern for the future of abortion access and reproductive justice across the country. As an organization committed to supporting Texans in the different parts of their reproductive journeys, we know that another four years under Trump’s administration promises devastating restrictions for abortion, contraception, and the right to bodily autonomy.
During his previous term, Trump appointed three conservative Supreme Court justices, leading to the fall of Roe v. Wade. His victory now signals an intensified threat to reproductive freedom, especially for marginalized communities. Federal and state-level attacks on reproductive rights are likely to escalate, putting abortion access even further out of reach for millions.
"As we look ahead to the next four years, we are gravely concerned about the future of reproductive justice," said Kamyon Conner, Executive Director of the TEA Fund. "Communities already facing barriers to health care—particularly low-income people, Black, Indigenous, and other people of color, and LGBTQ+ individuals—will suffer the most. This election outcome underscores the urgent need for us to rally around the defense of abortion access and reproductive rights, and pledge our allegiance to it forever."
The Future of Reproductive Rights Under Attack
With Trump’s win, we can expect to see continued efforts to ban abortion, roll back contraceptive access, and dismantle reproductive health programs that support pregnant people and families. This agenda disproportionately affects those who are already marginalized by the health care system, including rural communities, Black, Indigenous, and other people of color, and people with limited financial means.
The appointment of more anti-abortion judges and potential federal legislation aimed at criminalizing abortion could result in even stricter laws across the country, leaving Texans and others in hostile states with no safe or legal options. TEA Fund will continue to stand with our communities, providing financial support for abortion access and fighting to keep these essential rights intact.
Reproductive Justice is More than Abortion Access
TEA Fund is dedicated to fighting for a vision of reproductive justice that goes beyond abortion access. This includes advocating for policies that ensure economic justice, access to affordable child care, and the ability for all people to make decisions about their reproductive lives free from coercion, barriers, or discrimination.
"Reproductive justice is a holistic framework that acknowledges the intersections of race, class, gender, and sexuality," said Maleeha Aziz, Deputy Director of TEA Fund. "This election outcome only strengthens our resolve to fight for the dignity, safety, and freedom of reproductive health care —especially for those who have been marginalized by political and systemic injustice."
Call to Action
Despite this setback, TEA Fund remains committed to expanding abortion access, supporting individuals in their reproductive journeys, and advocating for policies that promote true justice for all. We call on our supporters, allies, and community members to join us in the fight ahead. Now is the time to mobilize, donate, volunteer, and advocate for the rights of us all to have control over our own bodies and futures.
Together, we will continue to resist any attempts to strip away our freedoms and will push forward to build a future where everyone can thrive.
