TEAm Abortion Storytellers

*** All abortion stories shared on this page are prior to SB 8 and the Dobbs decision***

The following profiles feature members of our TEAm who have had an abortion and proudly share their stories. We're grateful to have these brave individuals on our staff who use their experiences as a way of connecting with our community. Their stories and the experiences of others are why we continue to fight for abortion access in Texas.

We would like to recognize that we have not shared all of our TEAm members' stories out of respect for their privacy and individual experiences. If you are seeking additional stories from our Post Abortion Truth and Healing (PATH) storytellers, then contact us via email here or reach out to our press team. Our Deputy Director will be in touch in a timely manner.

Where I Had My Abortion(s): Texas & Colorado

My Story

I have had multiple medication abortions. For one of my abortions, I had to travel to Colorado Springs due to misinformation from an anti-abortion center. I have also had an abortion as a parent due to Hyperemesis gravidarum. While I am grateful for my abortions, the process of accessing care was made traumatic by all the barriers I experienced.

Barriers Experienced: The high cost of the procedure, lack of insurance coverage for abortion, the legal landscape in Texas, misinformation by an anti-abortion center, sexual trauma, and re-victimization, recent immigration, harassment from anti-abortion protestors, and lack of childcare.

Why I Share My Abortion Story

I share my abortion story loudly and proudly to build community and let others who have had abortions know that they are not alone. Storytelling is powerful, and I believe it can help shift the current narrative and bust the abortion stigma.

Where I Had My Abortion(s): Dallas, Texas

My Story

I had a medication abortion in my 20s. I was financially unstable and not ready or willing to be a parent. I knew I wanted an abortion, and while looking for resources, I ended up at an anti-abortion center where they misled and traumatized me. After the horrid experience, I made an appointment with an abortion clinic that offered me the care I needed with compassion and empathy. TEA Fund helped fund my abortion, and I am so grateful for my abortion and for all the incredible work by Texas abortion funds.

Barriers Experienced: FFinancial barriers, lack of insurance coverage for abortion, misinformation from an anti-abortion center, and harassment from an anti-abortion center.

Why I Share My Abortion Story

I share my abortion to make others aware of the harmful tactics used by anti-abortion centers. I want to let people seeking abortions know that they are not alone and there is an entire community of us to support them. I also share my abortion story to destigmatize abortion, especially in my community. I want people to know that any reason for having an abortion is valid.
