As we celebrate Black History Month, Texas Equal Access Fund reaffirms our commitment to the bodily autonomy of Black communities. As an executive director who navigates the intersections of being Black and queer, I know that experiences of members of my communities are deeply rooted in a history of systemic denial and control over our bodies. I am dedicated to ensuring our organization remains a beacon of support, centering the most marginalized among us.
Black women who are already parents are a significant portion of our client base. Our work is not just about access to abortion; it’s a component of Black liberation. Without bodily autonomy and mutual aid, our fight for equality and justice is incomplete. Our communities will not thrive.
Amidst the challenges posed by the Dobbs decision, we’ve expanded our services to encompass a wider range of reproductive health needs, including birth control, STI testing, and PrEP, while also supporting parents with essential infant care supplies. Our holistic approach to funding abortion alongside other reproductive health services is a key strategy in normalizing abortion care and directly impacting the lives of those we serve.
