Organizing Advocacy Fellow
About TEA Fund
Texas Equal Access Fund offers both financial and emotional support to individuals in North & East Texas who lack the means to access abortion and other reproductive care. Firmly committed to the principles of reproductive justice, TEA Fund fiercely advocates for the right to access all reproductive health options, including abortion, birth control, and parenting support. Texas Equal Access Fund’s mission is to provide funding to low-income people in the northern region of Texas who are seeking legal, out-of-state abortions and cannot afford it, while simultaneously working to end barriers to abortion access through community education and shifting the current culture toward reproductive justice.
About you:
We're looking for an advocacy fellow for the fall of 2024 that will focus on community outreach in the Panhandle, primarily Amarillo. TEA Fund’s service area includes many rural communities, including North and East Texas. However, our staff and board members are primarily based in Dallas. In your role, you would assist the Community Organizer and Campaigns Director in extending our reach to better our relations with these communities. Doing so would improve our services and advocacy to help the folks most impacted by abortion bans and barriers.
The advocacy fellowship requires a 10-12 hour a week commitment. The position is remote with flexible hours, but the fellow will require occasional travel for events and outreach. The fellowship will start on November 25, 2024 and will end on January 27, 2024. You will be compensated a $3,000 stipend for your time. You will receive $1,500 at the beginning of the fellowship and $1,500 upon completion.
Advocacy Fellow Responsibilities:
As the Advocacy fellow, you will play an integral part in helping TEA Fund build up our local advocacy programs and help get legislative and community support for our policy agendas. The tasks you will be required to include:
Schedule weekly check-ins with the Community Organizer and Campaigns Organizer to track progress and evaluate the work done.
Complete all relevant administrative paperwork before the start of the fellowship.
Create a community outreach plan for TEA Fund, focusing heavily on North Texas and the Panhandle communities.
Identify and build meaningful connections with local progressive organizations in these communities.
Create a resource list that we can provide to assist our clients living in these communities.
Create a resource list of event spaces that we can utilize to host trainings, workshops, and events in these communities.
Identify local representatives (if any) that we can work with to help improve access to truthful information regarding reproductive health and reproductive justice for folks living in these communities.
Connect with partner organizations that serve clients from these communities and learn about their challenges.
Connect with clients and storytellers from these communities
Through networking, identify other folks whom we can connect with and engage in storytelling and advocacy efforts.
Facilitate a virtual or in-person meet and greet for folks we serve who belong to these communities.
Facilitate advocacy events and trainings for folks in these communities.
Assist with other advocacy-related support as needed.
Maintain the confidentiality of any sensitive information provided to the Fellow where directed, both during and after the time of the fellowship.
Participate in an offboarding evaluation process toward the end of the fellowship.
