Fund-A-Thon 101: A Guide to Fundraising !

We’ve put together a brief guide on how to put together a fundraiser campaign for you and your Fund-A-Thon team! In this guide, we’ll share important resources, aligned-venues, and tips on how to maximize your efforts. With this, we hope that our Fund-A-Thon TEAmsters feel more empowered as they fundraise for their team’s upcoming event. Click through the public graphic guide here.

How to Fundraise

Here's how you fundraise for Fund-A-Thon:

  1. Start your own team with your fellow supporters who are ready to bowl with you on April 30th.

  2. Ask community members to donate to your team using your team page.

Getting donations to support your team helps our team and our organization. If at any point you become concerned or have questions, please contact our Development Director.

Where To Fundraise

Virtual and in-person spaces can be engaging ways to encourage your audience to donate to your Fund-A-Thon team.

Virtual Fundraising

Virtual or social-media based fundraising is a great way to meet people where they are, especially if your audience is geographically isolated from spaces that may be more welcoming for in-person events, or aren’t able to come support your team on the day of Fund-A-Thon.

Social Media

  • Create an Instagram post or Twitter thread on Fund-A-Thon, why you choose to support TEA Fund, and redirect folks to your team donation page (link it in your bio!)

  • We're @teafund on all platforms. Tag us in your public posts and we might be able to share or retweet!

Live Streaming Platforms

  • Twitch and YouTube are both virtual platforms that offer live streaming services. While this route does take a bit more of technological support and understanding, it is another great way to engage with your community in a virtual space. It also adds a “live event” element to your offerings; even though users are not physically present together, they can still all engage with one another using chat features. You can even set up a call-in line so users can call in telethon style and make donations, share their stories, etc.

  • We recommend recruiting fellow passionate volunteers who have experience in the program OBS, a freemium program that allows users to essentially set up TV-level quality streams, including features such as a rolling ticker, multiple camera views, different scene setups and more.

In-Person Venues

Below is a list of venues that are values-aligned with our organization. They have either previously hosted a TEA Fund official event, been host to community events, or have explicitly expressed that they are pro-abortion.

Fundraising Tips

We know it can be daunting to start your own fundraising event. No matter the scale of the event, doing something new can be exciting - and scary, too! Here are some tips and resources we’d like to share that will hopefully empower you and your efforts.

Unsure of what to say? Start here:

Use our customizable script to tell your network why you are holding a Fund-A-Thon fundraiser

As a TEA Fund [supporter, volunteer, donor], I’m asking my [network, community, loved ones] to donate to my Fund-A-Thon team fundraiser. Texas Equal Access Fund’s mission to fund Texan’s abortions means a lot to me, especially given the barriers and stigma people face when accessing care. [A sentence about your involvement with TEA Fund and our upcoming Fund-A-Thon Event.] I hope you’ll consider giving as a way of supporting this organization that I admire and our team of avid bowlers! Every dollar you donate will help me reach my goal and assist in making reproductive rights a reality!

Unsure of what to do at your event? Try these tips to spice things up!

  • Trivia: try a $5 buy-in where TEA Fund receives those proceeds

  • Raffle: tickets can be found at Walmart or Amazon.

  • Bar: Host with abortion-themed cocktails and mocktails.

  • Let us know of your event so that we can promote it too!

Our Endless Gratitude

We are endlessly grateful for the continued support from our community of passionate abortion advocates. It is because of your drive, your love for our work and your financial contributions to our efforts that we are able to keep our doors open each day.

We hope that your Fund-A-Thon fundraising event is a rewarding one! No matter the level of financial success you may experience, know that you’re already succeeding in being a steadfast supporter and philanthropist on behalf of TEA Fund. For that, we are eternally grateful!
